Summer rock stars

The real rock stars of the summer are not in London at the Olympics but at JPL in Pasadena, where a roomful of space scientists pulled off the extraordinary feat of landing Rover on Mars. Too bad our culture doesn't put thousands in the streets to celbrate. Too bad we don't take national pride in one of the few collective endeavors we still manage to do better than anyone else. Thank the gods there are a few exceptions to the dumbing down of America. After all, Mars may become our new home. We sure don't seem interested in saving this one.
