“My goal was to be Top 10,” Flanagan said. “That was the first check. But I’m always greedy as an athlete. I wanted a good battle today. I wanted to be in the battle. It was a bummer not to be in it. We worked so hard.

“I don’t think Kara and I have dedicated ourselves more to anything in our lives than to this race. It’s a little heartbreaking.”
