Clinton . American Experience . WGBH | PBS

Clinton . American Experience . WGBH | PBS:

A 4-hr bio and first rate documentary. Beautifully done.

Alas, the 30-min Oregon Experience docu of Wayne Morse, a recent repeat, is mediocre at best. I don't know how they managed to make a boring story of Morse, but they did!

I sat next to Wayne Morse at my house when I was an Oregon student, at the time of the Vietnam war. He came to explain who he was, why he was.

Since then I spent 30 years in Washington, first as a Capitol Hill reporter, then as an editor of uninformed reporters who struggled with the strangulated truths that pass for modern politics. I gave pass to columnists who claimed to represent the conservative view. Sadly, useful conservative thoughts have been forced into caves, as we may judge by the current Republican scorched-earth campaign.

Because of today's endemic fear, and disastrously for our country, I doubt Wayne Morse or his children could make it out of the primaries, let alone win general election. Or could they? Where is Oregon's voice in all this hysteria?

Sign up for more war, disenfranchisement, if someone does not take up Wayne Morse's cloak, and now rather than soon.
