Is the glass half full or half empty? Perhaps this is the central question in life. In Man's Search For Meaning, Franck, who spent time in a concentration camp, writes that the one thing the Germans could not control was his attitude. If you can see the glass half-full in a concentration camp, well ...
We are bombarded with news that the glass is half-empty, surely more frequently than at any time in our history. Probably there's no more bad news than ever but media permeates our existence more today -- and as any writer knows, bad news is more dramatic than good news. In such an environment, it's good to be reminded of good news and the most accessible good news is in the arts. Hence the uplifting story on NPR this morning on violinist Janine Jansen. To be on the same planet with such a talent! Read the story.
The challenge of the day is not to let "the news" get you down.
